LA HACIENDA DE LOS MARTINEZ

Taos, NM

One of the few “Great Houses” still standing in the American southwest, La Hacienda de los Martinez is a hefty adobe building built in 1804. This family home and vital trade center was the final terminus for the Camino Real, which connected northern New Mexico to Mexico City, and housed an extensive ranching and farming operation.

Nestled in a lush livestock valley, just across a stream, this Nationally Registered Historic Place offers live demonstrations of frontier life activities like blacksmithing, and a chance to stroll through 21 rooms and two courtyards, just like the Martinez family did hundreds of years ago.
