CHASE RANCH

Cimarron, NM

This sprawling, 11,000-acre historic ranch was established in 1869 and owned and operated by the Chase Family for nearly 150 years. It is currently managed by Philmont Scout Ranch, the Boy Scouts of America’s premier High Adventure™ base. The ranch includes a main house, grounds, orchards, tack room, picnic spots and a gift shop.

The last private owner of Chase Ranch was Gretchen Sammis, who was not only a major figure in local politics, education reform and conservation efforts, but also was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and awarded Cattleman of the Year. Experience the toils, tribulations and triumphs of western ranch life from its earliest days to the not-so-distant past, by scheduling a visit to Chase Ranch during the summer months.
